Toyota has extended its shutdown of two production lines in Japan, following the Daihatsu emissions test scandal.

The shutdown at two factories run by group companies will continue until 1 March.

Affected are one production line at Toyota Auto Body’s Inabe plant in Mie prefecture which produces Alphard and Vellfire minivans and one line at Gifu Auto Body’s main plant in Gifu prefecture which builds the HiAce van.

The lines have been suspended since 29 January after the discovery of ‘irregularities’ in certification tests for diesel engines developed by Daihatsu.

In January, Daihatsu said it would compensate thousands of direct and indirect suppliers for their loss of sales after it halted production of all models in December 2023.

Toyota would decide on 1 March to reopen the lines from 4 March, Reuters reported.
